Bulk item removal in Whittier is for the one big thing, or the few big things, that won't fit in the trash bin. Louie Villareal, who runs Cast Out Hauling & Junk Removal, carries them out and hauls them away in Whittier and the surrounding LA and Orange County cities. Call or text (562) 781-9101 to book. This job is different from a cleanout. There's no room to empty and nothing to sort through. It's the couch that sat through three moves, or the treadmill that turned into a coat rack.

The usual pile is the old sofa or bed after a new one arrives, or a recliner or mattress a tenant left behind in a rental unit. Nothing has to be at the curb. Louie walks each piece out of whatever room it's in, even a back bedroom or a garage corner. When the pile is mostly couches and dressers, his furniture removal page goes deeper on that kind of job.

He's open 24/7, and his own words for timing are "24 hour turn around." Same-day pickups happen when the schedule allows, but that's never a promise. Louie answers the phone himself and prices the job himself, so the person who quotes the recliner is usually the one who lifts it. He covers Whittier and every LA and Orange County town on his list, from Norwalk and Downey to Fullerton and Brea.

The full list of what goes on the truck, and what doesn't.

What counts as a bulk item

A bulk item is a piece too big for the trash bin and too heavy to wrestle into the back of a car. The usual call is about couches and sectionals, recliners, mattresses with their box springs, treadmills and other exercise machines, or a patio table with its chairs. Bigger things count too. Louie removes hot tubs, jacuzzis and old sheds, and hot tub removal has its own page for that work.

What sets this job apart is the size of the pile. A cleanout means emptying a whole space and deciding what stays. Bulk item removal is usually a few heavy pieces and nothing to sort. The hard part is the lifting and the path out of the house. Often it's the old set that has to go before new furniture arrives, or a sleeper sofa a tenant left in the living room. Couches, recliners, mattresses, exercise machines and patio sets are the usual pieces, and each one is carried out from the room it sits in.

Where the old couch and treadmill go

Every load gets sorted before it's dumped. Donation comes first. Pieces still in usable shape go to a local donation center first. Parts that can be recycled are recycled when possible. What's left is real trash, and it goes to the landfill.

Louie can't promise that any one item gets donated. That depends on the shape it's in when he picks it up. A sofa with clean cushions or an exercise bike that still runs has the best shot. If you'd like a piece to go to a donation center, say so on the call.

What it costs to haul off a few big pieces

Bulk item removal starts at the $120 minimum. Above that, Louie gives one number for the whole job, set by how much room the pieces take on the truck. A loveseat and a twin mattress take up far less space than a sectional and a treadmill, and the price follows that. Once everything is loaded, the number stays put.

Two add-ons can apply on this kind of job. Upstairs is +$25, and it comes up when the mattress or the exercise bike lives on a second floor. Carry over 50 feet is +$50, for a long carry like a back unit behind the main house. Louie names either one before he lifts anything, and nothing is added after. Those are the only add-ons he lists. He takes card, cash or Zelle. Call or text (562) 781-9101 with what you've got and where it sits.

How Louie gets a sectional out of a tight hallway

With big pieces, the job is mostly about the path out. Louie checks the doorways and the turn at the top of the stairs before he picks anything up. He'd rather spend a minute on the angle than scrape a door frame. A sectional often splits at its own seams, which makes the carry easier. Each piece goes from the room straight onto a truck and a 6 x 12 x 4 hydraulic dump trailer.

He usually works alone and brings a small crew when a piece needs more hands, like a heavy sleeper sofa coming down a narrow staircase. For a rental or an apartment, a property manager can set the time with him by phone or text and let him into the unit. He carries out what was left behind and hauls it off, so the unit is ready for the next step.

What stays behind on a bulk pickup

Louie turns down a few materials on any job, bulk pickups included. He won't take concrete or dirt, and he won't take a pile that has to be shoveled up, like loose rubble under an old patio set. Hazardous materials stay behind too, and that means paint, chemicals, fuel and asbestos.

Those tend to hide around big pieces. Think of the half-empty paint cans stacked beside the couch in the garage, or a gas can tucked behind the exercise bike. Pull them aside before Louie arrives and the rest of the load goes the way you planned. One heavy piece he hasn't done is a piano, so mention it up front if there's one in the room.

How the price works

Call or text (562) 781-9101. Louie looks at how much room it takes on the truck and gives you one number for the whole job. The number doesn't change once it's loaded. Jobs start at $120. The only add-ons: upstairs +$25, carry over 50 feet +$50. He tells you before he starts. More on how pricing works.

Where Louie does this

All of the surrounding LA and Orange County cities. Downey asks residents not to put bulky items in their trash containers, so a couch or treadmill needs another way out. Pico Rivera's on-call bulky pickup takes up to 4 items at a time, so a bigger load means more than one call. In Bellflower, the property owner must clear bulky items off the sidewalk and parkway, even ones someone else left there. See every town Louie covers for bulk item removal.

Questions

Questions about bulk item removal.

How much does bulk item removal cost?
It starts at $120, the minimum for any job. The final number depends on how much room your pieces take on the truck, and it stays the same once loaded. The only add-ons are Upstairs (+$25) and Carry over 50 feet (+$50), and Louie names either one before work starts.
Do I need to drag the couch to the curb first?
No. Louie goes in and brings it out from the room it's in, upstairs bedroom included. If it's on a second floor, the +$25 upstairs add-on applies, and he tells you that before he starts.
Will Louie come out for just one mattress?
Yes. One piece is a real job and gets priced like one, starting at the $120 minimum. If mattresses are all you have, the mattress removal page covers that job in more detail.
Can a property manager book a pickup for a vacant unit?
Yes. A manager can set a time with Louie by phone or text, let him into the unit, and he carries out what's there. Call or text (562) 781-9101.
How soon can Louie pick up a big item?
In Louie's own words, it's a "24 hour turn around." Same-day pickups do happen when the schedule allows, but they're never promised. He's open 24/7, so reach out whenever it suits you.
What forms of payment does Louie take?
Card, cash or Zelle.
