Louie Villareal, who runs Cast Out Hauling & Junk Removal, handles shed removal in Whittier and the surrounding LA and Orange County cities, taking out the old backyard shed along with whatever got stored in it over the years. Call or text (562) 781-9101 for a price. A shed job is really two jobs in one. First the contents come out, like the rusted rakes and the boxes nobody has opened in years. Then the shed itself comes down and rides off on the trailer, and the corner of the yard is open again.

Homeowners call when they want that space back for a patio or a garden. Property managers call too, getting a rental ready for the next tenant. The shed might be wood gone soft at the bottom or a metal kit with a dented roof. Either way, Louie quotes a single figure that covers the stuff and the building together. A big shed sometimes needs more hands, and he brings a small crew for those. He's based in Whittier, and the list of towns he works in around Whittier shows how far he goes in both counties.

What comes out of an old shed

A shed fills up slowly. The garden tools go in first, then the bikes the kids outgrew, then the patio chairs every winter, then the boxes from the last move. Years later the door sticks and the floor is soft. When Louie pulls one of these, the pile is mostly yard gear and old storage, with the walls and roof of the shed on top of it.

That mix is what sets this job apart. A furniture pickup is a couch and a dresser. A shed is a little of everything, plus the building that held it. Louie loads the contents and the structure as one job, and the shed contents and backyard gear he hauls are broken out item by item in his guide.

Shed removal versus a garage cleanout

The two jobs start out the same way, with a lot of stuff packed into a closed space. The difference is what's left when Louie drives off. A garage cleanout empties the room, and the garage stays standing. With shed removal the building goes too, so what's left is the bare spot where it stood.

Inside, the piles can look a lot alike, with rakes, bikes and old boxes in both. The loading goes the same way until the last box is out. Then a garage job is done. On a shed job, Louie loads the walls and roof on the trailer right after the contents come out.

What shed removal costs

Shed removal starts at the $120 minimum. Above that floor, the total depends on the space the shed and its stuff fill on the truck, and Louie quotes it as one figure. A small resin shed with a few rakes in it takes far less room than a big wooden shed stacked to the roof with boxes. Once the load is on the trailer, that number stays put.

Louie's card puts a quarter of the trailer at $200 to $250. Half the trailer is $400 to $450. Where a shed lands on that card depends on how big it is and how full it is. If you're a senior or in the military, ask Louie about the discount he offers.

Sheds often sit at the very back of the lot. A shed tucked that far back can mean a walk of more than 50 feet out to the trailer, and that adds +$50. Louie names it before any work starts. It never gets tacked on after the trailer is full.

Where the shed and its contents go

Louie splits up what came out of the shed before any of it leaves the yard. Anything still useful, like a working bike or patio chairs with some life left in them, goes to a local donation center first. Material that can go to recycling goes there when possible. The rotted plywood, the torn tarps, the brittle hoses and the rest of the real trash go to the landfill.

For a homeowner, that means the bikes the grandkids left behind can end up with someone who will actually ride them, instead of sitting in a dump pile.

How Louie gets a shed out of the backyard

Leave the shed just as it is, with nothing moved to the street ahead of time. Louie walks every load from the back of the yard, out the side gate, to the trailer. Most days he works alone. When a shed is big or the walk out to the street is long, he brings a small crew so the job keeps moving.

At a rental, the shed may sit behind a locked side gate, so Louie works out the day with the manager and gives an hour window. That way someone can open the gate before he backs the trailer up. He's open 24/7.

Someone who would rather pull the shed apart alone can rent the trailer itself. It's $650, and that covers up to 3 tons of dump weight.

What stays behind when the shed goes

Sheds collect the things Louie can't load. The half can of paint on the shelf, the gas can by the door, the bag of garden chemicals and anything else with fuel in it all stay put. Those are hazardous materials, and he won't haul them. Asbestos is on that list as well.

The ground under the shed is off the list too. If the shed sits on a concrete pad, the concrete stays. Louie doesn't take dirt, and he won't take loose piles that would need to be shoveled up. Pull the paint and fuel out ahead of time if you can, and mention the slab when you call, so the price covers only what goes on the trailer.

How the price works

Call or text (562) 781-9101. Louie looks at how much room it takes on the truck and gives you one number for the whole job. The number doesn't change once it's loaded. Jobs start at $120. The only add-ons: upstairs +$25, carry over 50 feet +$50. He tells you before he starts. More on how pricing works.

Questions

Questions about shed removal.

How much does shed removal cost?
It starts at a $120 minimum. Above that, the total depends on how much truck space the shed and everything in it fill, and it's locked in once the load is on. If the shed sits more than 50 feet from the trailer, add +$50, and Louie says so before loading.
Do I need to empty the shed before Louie comes?
No. Louie hauls the contents and the shed as one job, carried out from where they sit. The only things to pull out first are hazardous ones, like paint, fuel or chemicals, since he won't load them.
Will Louie take the concrete slab under the shed?
No. Concrete and dirt stay behind, along with any loose pile that would have to be shoveled. Louie takes the shed and what's inside it.
Does Louie handle other big backyard removals?
Yes. He also does hot tub removal, so an old spa and a shed can both come out of the same yard. Call or text (562) 781-9101 to price both.
How soon can Louie get to my shed?
Louie puts it as "24 hour turn around." A same-day visit happens on some days, though he won't promise one. Once the job is booked, he gives an hour window.
