Carpet removal in Whittier is handled by Louie Villareal, the owner of Cast Out Hauling & Junk Removal, who quotes the rolls and loads them himself. He rolls up old carpet and padding and takes it away, along with the other flooring leftovers a remodel leaves behind. Besides Whittier, he picks up carpet across the surrounding LA and Orange County cities. Call or text (562) 781-9101 for a price. Carpet is different from a couch or a fridge because it comes in long rolls and loose stacks of pad, and those take up a lot of room on the truck for what they are.

Carpet removal covers the old carpet and the pad under it, plus whatever scraps came up with them. When a remodel leaves more than flooring behind, Louie hauls that too, as remodeling debris removal. A carpet load is mostly bulk. The rolls take up a lot of room on the truck, and room is what sets the price.

Timing tends to matter here, because the new floor is going in and the old one is in the way. His phone is open 24/7, and he describes his pace as a 24 hour turn around. Same-day pickup is possible, so ask about it when you reach him. He takes card, cash and Zelle, and he quotes the job before anything goes on the truck.

What goes on the truck

  • Rolled-up old carpet
  • Carpet padding
  • Carpet scraps and cut-offs
  • Unused flooring left from a remodel
  • Carpet tack strips
  • Stair runner carpet

The full list of what goes on the truck, and what doesn't.

What's usually in a carpet pile

The pile is mostly what you'd expect. There are rolls of old carpet and the padding that sat under them, which comes up in sheets and ends up in a loose stack beside the rolls. Then there are the leftovers from the remodel, like cut-off pieces of the new flooring and extra material that never made it into a room. Tack strips pried up from along the walls and the runner off the stairs belong in the pile as well. Louie takes all of it on the same load.

Homeowners in the middle of a floor project call for this, and so do managers who look after rentals. A homeowner might have the old carpet waiting in the garage while the new floor goes in. A manager might have an empty unit and a new tenant coming. Some jobs are one bedroom. Others are a whole house pulled at once before a sale. Louie handles both the same way, with one price for the load.

What hauling off old carpet costs

Louie's minimum is $120. Past that floor, Louie quotes a single figure for the carpet and pad together, based on the truck space the rolls fill. A few rolls from one bedroom take less space than a whole house pulled at once, and the price follows the space. Once everything is loaded, that number doesn't change.

Carpet can trigger either of his two add-ons. Rolls sitting upstairs add +$25. A carry of over 50 feet from where the carpet sits to the truck adds +$50. Louie has no other add-ons on his list, and he names any that apply before he starts, never after. Call or text (562) 781-9101, and tell him how many rooms came up and which floor they're on.

Where the rolls and pad end up

Louie looks at donation first, and a local donation center gets what can be used again. Pieces a recycler can take go to recycling when possible. Real trash goes to the landfill. Padding and scraps go through the same sort.

That sorting is part of why carpet is its own job. Rolls and pad look like one kind of junk, but the clean leftovers and the worn-out carpet can end up in different places. Sorting the pile at the house isn't your job, though. Point Louie at the pile, and he works out which part goes where. For anything besides flooring that you want gone on the same trip, check which items Louie will load before you call.

What stays behind on a flooring job

Most of a carpet job is fine for the truck, but a few things on Louie's won't-take list can turn up around a floor project. He doesn't haul concrete or dirt, so a broken-up slab or the dirt under an old patio stays put. Loose debris that would need a shovel to load is off his list as well. That matters at the end of a job, when the last of it is crumbs and bits swept into a heap instead of pieces you can pick up.

Paint, chemicals, fuel and asbestos count as hazardous materials, and Louie refuses them. A floor project can leave half-used paint cans in the garage, and those stay behind. If you think anything in the pile could contain asbestos, say so up front, because Louie won't load it.

How Louie gets the rolls out of the house

You don't drag carpet to the curb for this one. Louie carries the carpet out from where it sits, so a stack of rolls in an upstairs bedroom or a heap of pad behind the garage can stay right there until he shows up. Rolls are long and awkward on stairs and around hallway corners, and he handles that part himself. Louie mostly handles carpet solo, adding a small crew for big pulls that need more hands, say a full second floor of carpet coming down the stairs.

A manager can call or text to set a time, tell Louie which unit and where the carpet is, and get the price before anything gets loaded. If the carpet is split between the house and the side yard, mention both spots so nothing gets left. He covers Whittier and every town on his list across LA and Orange County, so a manager with units in a few nearby cities can call the same number for each.

How the price works

Call or text (562) 781-9101. Louie looks at how much room it takes on the truck and gives you one number for the whole job. The number doesn't change once it's loaded. Jobs start at $120. The only add-ons: upstairs +$25, carry over 50 feet +$50. He tells you before he starts. More on how pricing works.

Questions

Questions about carpet removal.

How much does carpet removal cost?
The minimum is $120. Past that, Louie gives one price set by how much room the carpet and padding take on the truck, plus +$25 if it's upstairs or +$50 if the carry runs over 50 feet. Louie tells you about either one up front.
Does the carpet need to be at the curb?
No. Louie carries the rolls and padding out from wherever they are in the house, the garage or the yard.
Will Louie take the padding and leftover flooring too?
Yes. Old padding and the other flooring leftovers from a remodel go on the same load as the carpet, and one price covers all of it together.
Can my carpet be picked up the same day?
Sometimes. Same-day pickup is possible, and he's open 24/7 with what he calls a 24 hour turn around. Call or text (562) 781-9101 and ask if today is open.
Does Louie take flooring that might have asbestos?
No. Asbestos is on his won't-take list along with paint, chemicals and fuel, so any flooring you suspect has it stays off the truck.
How do I pay for carpet removal?
Card, cash or Zelle. Louie gives the price before he loads, and it stays the same after.
